Matson is a member of the Rogers Towers Litigation Department, practicing in both federal and state courts at the trial and appellate court level. Matson represents both businesses and individuals at the local, state, and national levels in the areas of commercial litigation, construction litigation, professional malpractice, insurance disputes, and serious personal injury claims, including wrongful death. Prior to joining Rogers Towers, Matson served as litigation counsel for a Fortune 500 title insurance company prosecuting and defending title disputes throughout Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.
Businesses and individuals seek Matson’s advice at all stages of their disputes, from informal negotiations to active litigation. Matson has successfully appealed an order granting class-action certification before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, obtained dismissal of complaint against client for allegedly failing to disclose material defects in residential property in Florida, and obtained dismissal of noise ordinance citations against commercial client in Florida. He has also won a summary judgment preserving individual clients’ residential easement across neighboring property in Virginia, summary judgment perfecting commercial client’s deed of trust on real property in Maryland, and judgment on behalf of commercial client seeking specific performance of land sale contract in Florida. Recently, he defended a commercial client against investigation by the Florida Attorney General relating to the False Claims Act.
Matson was born and raised in Jacksonville. He is an Eagle Scout (Troop 2), a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church, and a lifelong fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Aside from his wife, two kids, golden retriever, and front lawn, he is perhaps most proud of being a graduate of the IB Program at Stanton College Preparatory School.
