The Florida Bar News, in its October 1, 2013 edition, published an article summarizing the status of Florida mortgage foreclosure cases. The current volume of cases is reportedly the lowest since 2006. In the first six months of 2013, filings throughout the state averaged 14,000 per month. In the second half of the year, the average has dropped significantly. Interestingly, the article attributes this decline to the enactment of the new foreclosure law in Florida, claiming that plaintiffs are delaying filing while trying to figure out the mechanics of several new procedures under the law. Still, the article reports that there were 313,005 cases pending as of July 31.
